A new watercolour painting: The Kingfisher. One of the UK’s most brightly coloured birds. Often seen as a brief turquoise flash as they dart along a river.
Kingfisher memories
I live near a river and have often spotted Kingfishers darting along the river, but all I have seen is the flash of turquoise as they’ve darted above the river.
A few years ago, while watching a group of Mallard paddling about on the river, I saw a bird fly and perch on branch by the riverbank – it was a Kingfisher! After a brief stop, it flew downstream, and perched on a branch overhanging the river. The best view I had ever had of this bird. Thankfully, I had also brought my binoculars on the walk.
As if the one wasn’t enough, on the walk back, I was treated to a fly past by two Kingfishers. Wow!
